Writing

Zack’s passion for storytelling also extends to his work as a playwright, screenwriter, and Ancient Greek translator. He writes from an actor’s perspective, most often investigating the intersecting themes of queerness, myth, and history. His award-winning plays deal closely with how the relationships and bonds that we forge interact with our traumas and wounds, for better and for worse.

The Fire at the Edge of the Earth

The Fire at the Edge of the Earth premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2022 to rave reviews from audiences and critics. A year later, Eight Ball Theatre, a non-profit theatre company in Los Angeles, produced the play as their inaugural production. The L.A. production was selected by Stage Raw as one of their Top Ten Shows in the city that summer.

The play tells the story of Pluto and Vector, two men who must reckon with their relationship, their pasts, and the very nature of queer love while hiking up the mountain where the Greek god Prometheus was bound long ago.

“a complex and intelligent journey through myth, memory, and the present moment of two men in love … woven through both everyday conundrums and mythical quests” – Socks Whitmore, Stage Raw

“When so often male relationships are reduced to the physical in theatre, this is a love story, a balancing of need, truth and honesty so beautifully delivered. A breath of fresh air in lgbt+ writing and performance.” – Brian Merriman, founder of the International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival

always fascinating and thought-provoking” – Matthew Hayhow, Theatre Weekly

Confessions of a Former Boy Detective

This one-man play premiered at the Hollywood Fringe in 2021, where it was awarded a Producers’ Encore Award and selected as an official Pick of the Fringe for that year.

In the play, Daniel Davidowicz recounts his past as one half of an amateur crime solving duo along with his twin sister, the traumatic events that ended his career as a kid detective, and the broken relationships he now longs to mend. It is an intimate, frank, and often comedic examination of childhood, addiction, and redemption.
